How to take photographs
One of the main functionalities of the accesory application is to capture clinical or dermoscopic images. In order to upload the images, the doctor and, in some cases, the patient, must follow a series of steps:
Steps to follow
To upload a photo to the platform, these are the steps to follow:
- Take the photograph, from mobile or dermatoscope.
- Visit the Upload photo section in the left side menu.
- Select the patient.
- Register a new condition and select the body area.
- Read the instructions.
- Upload the photo.
- Fill in the questionnaire and press the finish button.
Preliminary considerations
- Before taking a clinical image, consider the purpose for which the image is required and obtain appropriate written or verbal consent.
- Make sure the patient understands the reasons for taking the image, how it will be used, and to whom it will be displayed. In case you share these images with other healthcare professionals or use them for studies / research, this should be clear to the patient.
- Document the consent process and check what your health service / hospital's requirements are for obtaining written consent. You also have the ability to add your patient consent form to Legit.Health and ask the patient to sign it directly on their smart device.
- It is important to understand that clinical images can contain information that can be used to identify the patient. As such, you are not permitted to send clinical images to anyone else unless you have the patient's consent to do so, or if the patient reasonably expects you to send the image for the purpose of their clinical management (for example, another physician) or if the law allows you to.
Clinical imaging safety
- If you are using your personal mobile device, you must ensure that clinical images are not automatically uploaded to any social media, endorsement sites, or any other application that may put your patient's privacy at risk.
- Delete any clinical images from your mobile device.
- Have controls on your mobile device to prevent unauthorized access, including passwords.
Legit.Health allows healthcare professionals to include personalized consent documentation in their accounts and collect digital signatures from patients. These signatures are then stored in Legit.Health and linked to that patient's profile. Documenting the consent process in Legit.Health allows for an easier, faster, and safer process, as there is no paper to store that requires additional space and security processes.
Some of the items that should be included in your consent document include:
- The purpose (s) of clinical imaging.
- How can clinical imaging be used, p. Eg an image could be used anonymously for training and education purposes.
- Who will have access to the image.
- Whether it can be shared and disclosed to others, and for what purposes.
- If it will be de-identified.
- How and where it will be stored.
